NOTES
The organ is installed in chambers on either side of a very deep chancel. The Great
and Choir are on the right, and the Swell is on the left. The Pedal is divided in the
chambers, and only the Choir 8' Harmonic Tuba is non-expressive.

The Great 2' Fifteenth is available as an independent register, but is part of the III
Mixture. The chimes are from the old church's previous instrument.

The Swell 4' Violina is an extension of the 8' Echo Salicional. The 2-2/3' Nazard is
an extension of the 8' Spitz Flute. The 2' Piccolo is an extension of the 4' Flauto
Traverso. In 2001, Wicks Rep. Charles W. Allen of Seattle added an 8' Vox Humana of
61 pipes.

The Choir 4' Flute is extended from the 8' Wald Flute. The 2' Flageolet is an extension
of the 4' Dolcan. The 1-3/5' Tierce is from the 2-2/3' Rohr Nasat, and it's top 9 notes
break back to 3-1/5' pitch.

The Pedal 10-2/3' Quint is a bass extension of the Great 8' Second Principal, and the
5-1/3' Octave Quint is derived from the same. The 16' Flauto Dolce is from the Swell 8'
Spitz Flute/16' Flute Conique. The Pedal 4' Super Octave is from the Great 4' Octave,
and not one of the two 8' Principals. In 2001, Wicks Representative Charles W. Allen of
Seattle added a second 32' resultant stop of different origins called Acoustic Bass.
With the Echo division added, the organ would have 37 voices, 67 speaking stops, 38
ranks, and 2,563 pipes.

The church's previous building was located at the corner of 43rd & Brooklyn. The
previous instrument was built in 1935 by the W. W. Kimball Co. of Chicago, Illinois,
and was created from a used instrument. The used instrument was an 1892, 3-manual, 32-
register tracker-action organ built by Hook & Hastings of Boston, Massachusetts as their
Opus 1519. It was originally installed in a former edifice of Seattle's Plymouth
Congregational Church. The Hook & Hastings pipework was packed by Charles W. Allen who
worked with Seattle Kimball representative Arthur D. Longmore, and shipped to the
Kimball factory for reconditioning and revoicing. The 'new' 2-manual Kimball organ was
was installed at University Congregational in 1935 by Mr. Longmore and assisted by Mr.
Allen.

When University Congregational built their present edifice, they sold their old building
– including the organ – to a Southern Baptist congregation. While that group occupied
the building, they had two fires – one of which damaged the organ. The Baptist congrega-
tion later moved to the old building of University United Methodist on the corner of
42nd & Brooklyn. That building also housed a W.W. Kimball organ. The old University
Congregational was razed, prior to which the organ was removed and ultimately rebuilt
into another 'new' IV-manual organ by Balcom and Vaughan of Seattle for Manito Presby-
terian in Spokane, Washington.

Charles Allen later became the regional Wicks representative, and was responsible for
the sale and installation of both the sanctuary and Harrington Chapel organs presently
in University Congregational Church.
