2008-01-17 - Updated through on-line information from James R. Stettner. -- The bellows were inscribed "1760." The organ had been in the home of Anna Marie Edwards of Hunter, NY. She moved to Andover for the occasion of her marriage to Prof. Edwards Amasa Park on Sept. 21, 1836. The organ was brought along, and is believed to have graced the north, front parlor of the Park residence at 173 Main Street. In 1900, the organ was given to Miss Emily Means - principal of Abbott Academy - by Agnes Park; daughter of Edwards and Anna Park. Where it resided is unknown. But in 1921, Miss means donated the organ to the Andover Historical Society. The Dennison Pipe Organ Co, of reading, MA. performed repairs on the organ in April, 1930. At some point in time, an electric blower was added - replacing the original iron foot-pumping lever which was left intact. According to Robert J. Reich of the Andover Organ Co. of Methuen, it appears as though the only original remaining pipework is the [8'] Stop'd Bass (19 pipes). The [4'] Principal and [2'] Fifteenth were added to the organ much later; and both they and the ['8] Dolcissimo appear to be more recent pipework than ca. 1790. Documented: November 15, 1989. -Database Manager
