2017-09-16 - Updated by Steve Bartley, listing conversations with this person as the source of the information: Present organist, Donald Friese.
The Estey organ was built for the first building, a 19th century frame structure in the Carpenter Gothic style. In the early 1920s an ambitious building project was started, with the Sunday School building and auditorium built first, with plans for a grand Gothic sanctuary of stone. (This never came to be) The Estey was installed in the chancel of the Auditorium. A commemorative dinner plate exists with a drawing of the chancel, including the Estey.
The organ keydesk was placed in the lower wood-work portion of the case, not in the usual center position, but the extreme right side. In the early 1960s the interior was renovated to include an Anglican style choir arrangement, and altar. The front-center Estey was removed, and an Allen organ installed to fit the new arrangement. In 1967 the Allen was replaced with a 3 manual Moller. -Database Manager
