2023-02-14 - William Schuelke of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, installed a two-manual organ of pneumatic action in the rear gallery at a cost of $4,200 in October 1899. Twin cases housed the organ at either side of the central stained-glass window. The early electric blower was powered from a wire run from the Union Street trolley line into the church. (Apparently Sacred Heart was not the only German Catholic parish with this arrangement, as Saint Martin of Tours, Louisville, Kentucky, originally powered its Farrand & Votey organ, heard at the 1993 OHS Convention, under a similar arrangement.) Manual compass was sixty-one notes (CC-c4); pedal compass (flat pedalboard) was twenty-seven notes (CC-d'). -- *2007 OHS Atlas* -Paul R. Marchesano
