2017-01-03 - Updated by Franklin S. Miller, who has heard or played the organ.

This is the instrument [gasp!!] which Heinrich Fleischer, the prominent German organist, a pupil of Karl Straube and Michael Schneider, had at his disposal at the time he taught at Chicago Musical College. I studied with him on this instrument, and also was enrolled in a course on the history of organ music with him. I vividly recall one day Fleischer playing the great "Aus Tiefer Not" (with the double pedal--c.f. in right foot!) of Bach, mostly by memory, while commenting on the music as he played! (He didn't use any of the "toy counter" stops, as far as I recall!)
The previous organ instructor at Chicago Musical College, was a man by the name of C. Gordon Wedertz, who had been a theater organist in downtown Chicago. He apparently had picked up the instrument sometime after the "talkies" came into existence.
Hope everyone enjoys this little reminiscence from a 91 year former pupil of Fleischer at Chicago Musical College around 1951. -Database Manager
