2017-05-04 - Updated by Steven Bartley, naming this as the source of information: Sun papers 12/9/1896 pg7 & 5/30/1930 pg4; New Mount Carmel Star Facebook page.<br> Built in 1882 in the Pratt & Monroe neighborhood of Baltimore. This church was to have been a sizable muscular Gothic pile. Though the neighborhood was decidedly working class, its engine of economy was the massive B&O rail road manufacturing facility. Only the trancepts and crossing was built. With the orientation of the interior facing one of the east trancepts. Two Sun paper articles, several decades apart mention the installation of a "new organ", but provide no details. The Episcopal congregation folded in the late 1970s. The Maryland Historical Society possesses a nice early 20th century photo of the interior. An Organ facade with the typical facade spread is seen, with wood work paneling below. The present owner is "New Mount Carmel Star Baptist Church". A recent Facebook page, showed the interior only slightly altered, but the organ is gone. -Database Manager
