2008-01-16 - Restoration and enlargement of Hook & Hastings organ, relocated from West Harwich through the Organ Clearing House. -Database Manager
2008-01-19 - Updated through information from Scot Huntington, referring to the discrepancy in opus numbers assigned the organ in Harwich: "The Open, Dulciana, Octave, Viola are labeled 1417, the wood ranks and other upper work have no opus numbers on the pipes, and the original 8' Oboe is labeled 1418. Too bad 1417 is now so far away- it would be interesting to see what those pipes are labeled."
" .... it would seem the opus number of 1418 assigned by the company is the 'official' number (but there are known discrepancies in the list), and that pipes for 1417 found their way into this organ. Since they were geographically so close, it seems strange there might have been a push to get one out the door over the other, or it could have been simple confusion in the factory. I suspect that the difference between these two catalog organs is that Providence would have been a style 8, minus the Gr. 16', Swell Violina and either the Pedal Flote. Harwich is a style 9. I would be willing to bet the Providence pipes for the four stops listed above would be listed 1418." -Database Manager
2009-11-27 - Updated through online information from John Gouwens. -- Scot added a 3-rank mixture - VERY effectively in the style of Hook & Hastings. Also, added a trumpet and enlarged extant Oboe to make a 16' reed. -Database Manager

2016-02-22 - Updated through online information from Scot Huntington.
The present 2006 building is a relocation to larger quarters for this historic congregation. The organ was the gift of a single donor, and the purchase was arranged through the Organ Clearing House. The organ has been heard during two O.H.S. conventions- its original West Harwich home in 1966, and in Valparaiso in 2012. At the time of its removal from West Harwich, the case and facade had been widened and repainted numerous times.

For its restoration in Valparaiso, the casework was restored to its original proportions, stripped to its original natural oak finish, and the facade pipes redecorated in their original patterns and color, using for the first time in an American restoration the original decoration medium- milk paint- still available in the same color palette as was originally applied in West Harwich, including the vivid Cobalt Blue.

The original pipe decoration is intact, encapsulated under many subsequent layers of paint, and the gilded pipemouths are the only vestige of the original decoration still visible. The Mixture and Trumpet are copies of original Hook & Hastings pipework existing in similar-sized instruments contemporary with No. 1418, are installed on jump sliders and toeboards, and were added at the request of the purchaser. The 16' Fagotto was added above the contract and was the gift of the restorer so as to retain the original Oboe pipework with its instrument. Other than these tonal additions and the necessary alterations to the original mechanism necessitated by the increased depth requirements, the historic components of the instrument were restored according to O.H.S. Guidelines. The organ was formally dedicated in concert by Wolfgang Rubsam. -Database Manager
