2021-12-14 - According to the church's website, "The first sanctuary was constructed in 1907 on Las Palmas Ave. As the membership increased, more space was needed, so a second sanctuary was built alongside the first on the corner of Selma and Las Palmas Avenues. Unfortunately, both structures burned to the ground on May 3, 1935 due to embers from a neighborhood fire." The fire was reported in the *Spokane Spokesman-Review*, May 4, 1935: "HOLLYWOOD, Cal., May 3. (AP)—Sparks from a flaming garage and tree were blamed today for the burning of the fashionable First Baptist church, located in the heart of Hollywood. The church, built 16 years ago, was valued at $100,000. A $10,000 pipe organ, a $300 mahogany pulpit and a 2000-volume library of rare books also burned."
