2021-10-19 - There has never been a St. Titus Roman Catholic Church in Philadelphia. However, there was an Episcopal mission church in the Eastwick section of the city, Located at Eighty-Fourth Street and Tinicum Avenue, which opened c. 1897 and held its last service in 1960. This is most likely the origin of the 1897 Haskell organ (not this one manual instrument). Further complicating the record, Haskell published in the January 1918 issue of The Diapason an organ built for Muehlenberg Lutheran Church in Philadelphia. No record of such a church has been found. The extant lists attributed a Haskell organ from "Lutheran Church, Philadelphia, 22nd St?" Two possibilities exist: At 1732 North 22nd St, there is a building owned by Emmanuel Baptist Church and listed for sale in 2019. This building was originally constructed as **Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church** and was designed by Hazelhurst & Huckel, completed in 1892. The block has many empty lots and the building may be slated for demolition. The other [less likely] possibility is that the organ was built for Zion Lutheran Church, whose pastor was named Muehlenberg. -Paul R. Marchesano
