Near, who has heard or played the organ.
tc Celeste
I knew this organ first hand, practicing on it many hours a day, from the time of its installation (1967) until I graduated from Principia College in 1969. The organ was tonally inadequate (under scaled) to the 1100 seat auditorium in which it was installed. It never functioned mechanically very well. There may not have been enough power from the rectifier because not all notes would sound when large chords were played. Stop-action solenoids would sometimes freeze up. The organ survived until 1983, when the situation had become untenable. I was told that during a choir rehearsal, smoke began to pour out of the facade. -Database Manager
