2008-09-07 - Identified through on-line information from James R. Stettner. -- This organ was originally built sometime between 1847 and 1858 for South Church (later, First Congregational) in Georgetown, MA. When that congregational built a new edifice in 1874, it was furnished with a new organ. The Simmons was purchased by the Ladies Benevolent Society of the Byfield church for $400.00. It was installed at the front of the room on the left side. It survived until 1930 when it was lost to fire along with the church building. Source: 1987 OHS convention handbook. -Database Manager
