Notes

2008-12-23 - Identified through online information from James R. Stettner. -- This was the major rebuilding and enlargement of the 2/29 W. W. Kimball organ previously at University Congregational in Seattle, Washington, which was itself an electrification and rebuild on new chests of the 3/27, 1893 Hook & Hastings originally built for Plymouth Congregational in Seattle. The Kimball chests were retained as was virtually all of the previous pipework. Much of it is the original H & H pipes. Other new chests and pipes were added. In 1963 Don Gorman reduced the wind pressure from the Kimball 5" back to the Hook 3". In 1970, he installed a Bell Industries electronic carillon. In 1979, B & V installed a Lucas solid state combination action. In 1980-81 Don Gorman added 659 new pipes and some new chests. In 1982, Don Gorman was to make further additions, but passed away, so the work was completed by B & V. By this time the organ was 40 independent registers, 68 speaking stops (including the carillon drawknobs), 45 ranks, and 2804 pipes. This information comes from the Balcom and Vaughan files and an examination of the extant organ. -Database Manager
