2020-08-17 - Original Console Pnematic Action to actuate drawknobs replaced in 1990. Unfortunatly the new drawknobs have plastic faces that turn in place and even pop off at times - not the quality of original manufacture. Also, some revisionist revoicing of many flute stops in early 1990s. Trying to limit overtone series, many flute stops had their chiff removed. The Quintiton lost it's "Quint". I think they even renamed it Lieblich Flute. This revisionist voicing is unfortunate, as the head voicers at Moller did an excellent job giving Court Street's Flutes, which are in divisions spread around the sanctuary, their varied and colorful sound. Sometime between 2003 and 2015, when I last visited, they replaced the 4' Trichter Regal in the Choir division with an 8' Clarinet. Another unfortunate decision, as the Trichter Regal stop was a light reed, that gave some personality to the instrument. Also, it was a wonderful stop to couple to the pedal for a small pedal solo stop against a flute or string in either the Great Postiv, or Swell as the accompaniment. Very practical for Bach. The 7 ranks of strings spread out through the instrument still are the best combination of string tone you will find on most instruments across the country. -Kent Bates
