2015-09-27 - Updated through online information from Joseph A. Marasco. -- First Presbyterian Church moved to a new facility in the Belle Vernon, PA suburbs in the late 1950s. Covenant Christian Church (CCC) purchased the property from First Presbyterian Church in 1959; updated information is being provided by the son of the pastor of CCC.

The organ was found to be in a state of severe dilapidation, as was much of the building, which was likely built in the 1870s. The pneumatic tubes had been walked on and some were crushed, façade pipes were discolored, and the instrument was covered with dirt.

The pastor cleaned parts of the instrument, effected jury-rigged repairs, and tuned the organ to make it playable for services, but mechanical failures persisted. In 1963 a Hammond M-103 was purchased with S&H green stamps collected by the congregation, and the pipe organ was sold to an organ technician in the area.

The entire instrument was carefully dismantled and removed, but its eventual fate is unknown. Photographs will be provided if they can be found. -Database Manager
