2022-09-30 - Church records seem to be somewhat confusing as to the price paid for the organ. One source slates that "'the Society paid $30 for the organ' which they purchased from Rufus Johnson of Saccarappa on January 1, 1854. ... the organ was brought into the church by rolling it across planks which were laid ยท over the pews." Minutes of the Ladies Circle "noted [on 1 March] that thirty dollars be given toward the organ", and on 15 March "Mel at the Owens (March 9 paid John Hill $30.00 for the organ.)" There was once cloth stretched across a frame in the center flat of the Groveville organ; the heavy cornice is a later addition. Both flutes in the instrument are metal chimney flutes. -- *1992 OHS Handbook* -Paul R. Marchesano
