2009-07-09 - Identified through on-line information from James R. Stettner. -- Extant photos from ca. 1940 show the organ with a clearly detached, rolltop console, so it seems likely that it was electrified at some point. When the sanctuary was renovated in 1942, the organ was sold to the Methodist church in Cisco, Texas, and was replaced with a new Kimball. -Database Manager
2009-07-11 - Updated through on-line information from James R. Stettner. -- Received in a 7/9/09 e-mail from organist Andrea Handley, "A sentence from a historical booklet that our receptionist found: 'In March 1893….the church contracted with Lancashire-Marshall Organ Company to purchase on credit a new organ for $1850.' An interesting little addition: 'During the fall of 1897…the Lancashire-Marshall Organ Company …sued Marvin…in the Smith County District Court for nonpayment of debts.' They won the case, and the church was ordered to pay the full amount owed, with interest and court costs. Within a few months the church had been sold to a private citizen because of massive ($20,000) debt. Within two years, because some members stepped up, they were able to buy it back." -Database Manager
