2009-08-29 - Identified through research conducted by Sand Lawn, courtesy of David Scribner. Opened in January 1873, and Hutchings, Plaisted & Co. named as the builders; likely built under the former name; church merged to form Trinity Congregational in 1884; organ gone. -Database Manager
2013-05-10 - Updated through online information from James R. Stettner. -- The Lawrence Daily Eagle attributes the builder as Hutchings, Plaisted & Co. The organ is described as being divided in two cases at the pulpit end of the church with the Great and wind mechanism on one side; and the Swell and Pedal on the other side. 8 ranks on the Great, 7 ranks on the Swell, 2 ranks on the Pedal. The Swell had a uniquely-named 4' Spitz Viola. The organ was premiered on Wednesday, February 5, 1873. In 1883, Eliot Congregational merged with Central Congregational at Central's edifice. Years later, Eliot's buildng became a YMCA and was eventually demolished. The disposition of the organ is unknown. -Database Manager
2022-07-11 - from "Organs of Greater Lawrence "by Robert J Reich Organized 1865; bldg. 1866 brick, northwest corner of Methuen and Appleton Sts.; merged 1883 with Central Cong. to form Trinity Cong. at Central bldg.; Eliot bldg. became YMCA, eventually demolished. *S Organ: Hutchings #31, 1873, 2-23, $3500, Great and Swell divisions were located against the walls on either side with the console in the middle; sold in 1891 by the trustees of the YMCA to the First Unitarian Church in Lawrence where it was used until 1916 when the building was torn down and then finally sold in 1919 for $850 to an unnamed purchaser (church records). -Andrew Scanlon
