The organ was given by John Buck of Orland, Maine to his daughter Emmaline on the occasion of her 21st birthday (ca. 1950). Buck sent one of his schooners to Portland, Maine to pick the organ up along with a man from Paine & Sparrow. The organ was taken to Orland by the schooner, and then taken up the Orland River by a smaller boat. It was finally delivered to the home by oxcart. This chamber organ remained in its Orland home from ca. 1850 until its purchase by Mr. Stephen Peterson in 1975. The underside of the reservoir is signed by John K.H. Paine of Paine & Sparrow. Mr. Paine was the grandfather of American composer and organist John Knowles Paine.
