Notes

2009-10-02 - Identified through on-line information from Will Dunklin. -- This building is adjacent to the historically black Knoxville College and served as the college's chapel in addition to being an independent congregation. The building is now in the hands of Knoxville College, the congregation merged with Fourth Presbyterian to form Fourth United Presbyterian. The organ is a small 2-manual Austin standing at once side of the chancel. A neo-baroque positive has been hung on the chancel rear wall. Do not know who installed or expanded it. The organ was not playing when I saw it last, though not damaged beyond leather failure. Have not been able to gain entry to the building to secure further info. -Database Manager

2009-10-24 - Updated through on-line information from Will Dunklin. -- Visited the organ on October 22, 2009 and discovered that this organ is Austin Opus 382, originally built for First United Presbyterian Church in Spokane Washington. The organ was moved to Knoxville either in the 1960s or early 1970s. A floating Positiv division was added and the "french mouth" facade pipes moved into a chamber. The Positiv is exposed front and center, the rest of the organ is in a chamber on the house right. The organ is mostly intact. The sharp side of the great Open and Octave have been removed and placed inside the Universal Air Chest and an Allen speaker sits on the great chest. -Database Manager
