2017-09-24 - Updated by Steve Bartley, listing this website as a source of information: https://www.facebook.com/StMarksIBC/. In addition Steve Bartley gave this as a source of information: Maryland Historical Society Hughes Photo collection Z6.360.PP8.<br> The organ was installed with the new building, 1923. A professional photo by the Hughes Company shows the interior, including the organ, which was placed in an arched alcove behind the pulpit. This consisted of the standard picket fence of pipes with woodwork below. In April 1939, during Easter service, the organist had a heart attack and died at the console. The description of the organ location was the same. In the 1950s the congregation moved to a new building in the nearby town of Catonsville, and the building was sold. Facebook photos of the present congregation, St. Mark's Institutional Baptist, shows the interior in much the same way as it had been in the original photo, except the organ has been removed and installed in twin side chambers with decorative facades and grilles. The appearance is professional, and looks like the work of Moller. Prior to being at this location, the Immanual congregation had been at Saratoga St & Schroeder, where, in 1895, they had hired Maryland Church Organ Co to build (rebuild) an organ for their building. This building is extant, and until recent years, the organ was fully intact, until the metal pipes were stolen. From its appearance the organ was a sizable single manual instrument from the 1840s-50s which had been enlarged to 2 man. -Database Manager
