2020-11-17 - In 1942 the Clinton Avenue and Central Congregational Churches merged, using the Clinton Ave. facility; it was renamed Cadman Memorial Church in honor of Central's late well-known pastor S. Parkes Cadman, who died of a ruptured appendix in 1936; he was reported by the New York Times to be the first 'radio preacher,' listened to by over five million people; his syndicated weekly column was featured nationwide; Central became one of the largest Congregational churches in the nation. -Jeff Scofield
