2014-12-30 - The organ was removed when the theatre deteriorated. It was acquired by Atlanta Chapter ATOS member Gordy Johnson and installed in his residence in east Cobb County (Marietta), Georgia, with additional ranks added. Ultimately, the couple sold the home and moved to Florida. -Database Manager
2014-12-30 - In 2005, the residence was in foreclosure and the organ was rescued by members of the Atlanta Chapter ATOS. Plans are to reinstall it in the restored Imperial Theatre, its original location. -Database Manager
2024-03-03 - Updated through online information from Larry Davis: The Wurlitzer at the Imperial Theatre was removed in the 1970's and stored, eventually making its way to Atlanta where it was expanded to 11 ranks, and was installed and playing in the residence of Gordon Johnson in Marietta, GA. After he retired and moved, the organ was eventually acquired by the Atlanta Chapter, American Theatre Organ Society, and returned to the Imperial Theatre in Augusta, where it is in storage awaiting reiinstallation. As far as changes: the organ was never on a lift. It sat on a platform in the pit. -Jim Stettner
