2022-03-07 - The large stone church was begun in 1856 and was the second building for this congregation. The bluestone for its construction was quarried locally, and delivered via the Chenango canal which passed through Oxford, the construction crew included quarrymen and stonemasons that had gained experience building the canal. The building is still well maintained. The Moller was installed as part of the expansion of the church with a divided chancel, and the choir was moved to the front from the balcony. The new organ cost $4,000, plus the Marklove organ in trade and its relatively new electric blower. The Moller contract included building a passage through the organ case for the choir. The contract was signed on October 1, 1924, and was shipped on Jan. 28, 1925. The Kinetic blower had a 1.5 h.p. motor; the case and console were "plain" oak, the facade color was gold bronze, the two reeds were supplied by Gottfried and drop-shipped directly to the church, as was Moller's practice at the time. -Scot Huntington
