2015-08-21 - Taken from the church website on August 21, 2015: The Casavant pipe organ is [now] a 4 manual instrument; it was the last instrument completed while Larry Phelps was the president of Casavant Freres. Originally designed to be a mechanical action (tracker) instrument, the decision was made mid-production to make it a electro-phumatic organ of 3 manuals and nearly 80 ranks. The instrument was installed in 1971 and voiced (flues and reeds) on 1 1/3" windpressure. In 1981, while Melvin West was the Kettering Church Minister of Music, the entire instrument was sent back to Canada where the organ was revoiced for higher windpressure and all the harmonic flutes were changed to include a variety of different sounds. The four Kornet-s were retained but the Positiv division was enclosed, an Ertzhaler and Celeste were added to compliment the one string on the organ. A Trumpet-En-Chemade, 32' Unterzatz and chimes were added to round out the tonal possibilities, enlarging the organ to 91 ranks. In 2002, funds were raised with over 200 people participating to replace the original, air-driven console with a new moveable 4 manual console built by Colby, Inc., of Johnson City, TN, and a new digital combination action and digital voices by WalkerTechnical, Inc. of Pennsylvania. The console lift was enlarged by Paul Reiss to accomodate the wider and thinner new console. An antiphonal organ of 20 voices and MIDI were added to the back balcony with a facade pipe display created and installed by Larry Stofer. -Database Manager
