2004-10-30 - Church flooded in July, 1993 floods, but organ in rear gallery. Condition? -Database Manager

2012-04-15 - Updated through online information from Ron Yeater. -- I visited this organ in 1995, about 2 years after the flood. The waters entered the church, but did not reach the organ in the balcony. However, in addition to all the organ's other troubles, the resulting humidity had just about finished it off! The parish was soon afterward closed by the bishop, so the present status of the organ is unknown- it's probably just sitting there rotting away! Too bad; this one is fascinating! -Database Manager

Immaculate Conception R. C., Kaskaskia, IL
c. 1870? Richard Jackson

A friend of David Bohn, Paul Carton, visited the Ch. of the Immac. Conc.
R.C., Kaskaskia, Illinois sometime in Sept. of last year. The organ
exists. The case has been replaced, in the 50's perhaps. Here is the
data:

Great Organ: 16' Bourdon, 8' Open Diapason, 8; Melodia, 8' Dolce, 4'
Principal, 4' Flute, 3' Quint, 2' Piccolo

Swell Organ: 8' Violin Diapason, 8' Salicional, 8' Stopped Diapason, 8'
Aeolina, 4' Flute, 4' Violina, 2' Piccolo, 8' Cornopean

Pedal Organ: 16' Grand Open Diapason, 8' Open Diapason

3 couplers, Calcant

Supposedly all stop faces are replacements, but Grand Open Diapason 16' is consistent with Jackson nomenclature; knobs have square shanks, key fronts are plain.

Compass: manual: 61 notes, pedal 27 notes.

three terraces of 4 stops each, with 2 blanks.

Triple feeders and crank.

Great playable, Swell has runs, Pedal Dubious.

I don't think the date (C.1870) in the OHS Organ List is correct. As soon as I get the photos of the name plate, I'll be able to get a better idea. The Jackson of 1892 in Watertown, Wisconsin had a 58 note compass, this organ has 61, unless the information is inaccurate
