2017-12-08 - Updated by Steven Bartley, who maintains the organ. Additionally, Steven Bartley listed this website as a source of information: https://www.yellowpages.com/springfield-va/mip/st-johns-methodist-preschool-14670826.
Since the original installation, the organ has been enlarged. The chests appear to be standard Casavant, though the installation is not up to their usual standards.
Tonal alterations include 1-12 Gt Prin from Pedal; Gt Naz & Tierce; Enclosed Sw Gemshorn, Gems Celeste, & 16/8 Oboe; Pedal 4 Principal extension, 8/4 Bourdon extension
The organ is unusual in its installation. Located in the front of the church, either side of the choir risers, it consists of two matching built-out chambers against the outside walls, extending beyond the chambers are two matching window box style chests about 8' from the floor. On the right side is housed the Great pipework and Pedal Principal, the left side the unenclosed Sw and the enclosed Sw, with the large metal Subbass pipes standing at the front of the enclosed section. The room is a late 20th century building, nearly square in floor plan, with a tall pyramid roof sitting on low side walls. This large expanse of exposed ceiling is covered in "club-basement" knotty pine paneling. The original design of the instrument did not lend itself to the needs of the church service and the dry acoustics accentuate the upper registers. The remedy to enclose at least three ranks, does make the instrument more usable. Around 2012 the organ was releathered and the console/relay renovated with a solid state system. -Database Manager
