2016-06-23 - Updated through online information from Scot Huntington. <br>The building cornerstone was laid in 1894, and in 1911, The Rudolf Wurlitzer Mfg. Co. installed here one of five instruments originally contracted for with the Hope-Jones Organ Co. of Elmira, New York, which were built by the Hope-Jones Organ Dept. within Wurlitzer's North Tonawanda, New York factory, after they had acquired the Hope-Jones assets in 1910. The church history states the Casavant was built in 1949 out of "war" surplus materials and parts of the Wurlitzer. The Cathedral signed, and then abruptly cancelled a nearly half-million dollar contract with John Brombaugh & Associates of Eugene, Oregon in 1989. In 2004, the Casavant was replaced with a three-manual mechanical-action instrument by Kenneth Jones, Ltd., free-standing in a newly-constructed rear gallery. The Jones incorporated several ranks from the Casavant. -Database Manager
