2010-04-24 - Identified through on-line information from Kip Said. -- The organ was rebuilt at least once; the first time sometime between 1918 and 1942 during the pastorate of the Reverend Dr. Elmer J. Stuart. During the late 1950's or early 1960's, the exterior stonework of the church was repointed and sandblasted without covering a leaded-glass window facing Pine Street which was the back wall of the organ chamber. According to my teacher, the assistant organist at the time, a rather large amount of sand got into the instrument and ruined it. The decision was made to replace the Hutchings-Votey and as she told me, "One day a man came with a truck and took it away." The replacement was an electronic instrument intended to only be "temporary" but which remained in use until 1986. -Database Manager
