2010-08-22 - Updated through online information from T. Bradford Willis, DDS. -- In the History of St. John's Methodist Church, Waco, Texas, 1886-1967, it states, "Because the women of the church labored and toiled with one great purpose before them, the fine Hilgren-Lane [sic] organ was bought and installed in 1927 and dedicated to Mrs. J. N. Boyd, the motivating force of the project. Miss Audra O'Neal has been the only organist since installation of the instrument." -Database Manager

2010-08-24 - Updated through online information from T. Bradford Willis, DDS. -- On October 2, 1988, the congregations of St. John's UM Church, Brookview UM Church, and Trinity UM Church merged to form Central United Methodist Church. Bishop John W. Russell blessed the union of these historic Methodist churches of Waco. The congregation of the new Central UM Church continued to worship at the edifice of the old Saint John's Church until the congregation could purchase land and erect a new edifice in a growing area of Waco. Central UM Church is now located at 5740 Bagby Avenue, Waco, 76712. The congregation of the Greater New Light Missionary Baptist Church now occupies and worships in the old Saint John's church building. I visited the church on Friday, August 20, 2010 and was allowed to tour and photograph the interior of the church. The facade pipes of the 1927 Hillgreen-Lane organ were present in the chancel, but upon further inspection the entire organ chamber has been removed. I did not see the 1927 organ console on this visit. -Database Manager
