2013-04-21 - Updated through online information from Stephen T. Emick. -- I was a sixth generation member of this church, grew up there and participated in choirs and other groups. I still have family members in this church. I now serve as a Presbyterian minister in Allentown, PA. The information I am submitting comes from several different anniversary history books for the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church.
The Church was named German Presbyterian at the time this organ was installed, and renamed Hickory Street Presbyterian Church in March 1930. It is the third organ in this church. The first was built by the Cabinet Pipe Organ Company of Syracuse, NY. The second was built in 1890 by the M. P. Moller Company of Hagerstown, MD. The third, and current organ, was built in 1920. It was designed by Dr. Charles M. Courboin and built by Casavant Freres, Ltd. at a cost of $30,000.
The original console is the one pictured here and described above. The organ was restored in 1971 with all pipes completely restored and a new console was placed in its current location in the balcony replacing the original console that was in the chancel in the front of the sanctuary. The new console is a three-manual, electro-pneumatic console built by Casavant Freres, Ltd. The Chancel Organ is in a front right chamber and the Great, Swell, Choir, and Pedal Organs are in chambers in the balcony. -Database Manager
