2012-06-30 - Updated through online information from T. Daniel Hancock. -- When first installed, the console was installed in the center of the back row of the Choir, facing the organ screen, with the organist's back to the nave. At some point in the middle twentieth century, the console was moved to liturgical north of the chancel, opposite a new grand piano on liturgical south. The console is handsomely crafted of quarter-sawn oak with a low profile inspired by the smaller keydesks of the French Romantic era. The hinged cover folds up in one piece and rests on the top of the console. In recent years, c. 2010, the combination action was replaced, and the four original divisional pistons were replaced with a greater number of adjustable general pistons. At this time, the standard colored Kilgen stop keys were replaced with modern supply-house stop keys which are too long and too narrow, and have an awkward appearance in an otherwise elegant and original console. Tonally, no changes have been made to the instrument, which was completed soon after the Collegiate Gothic styled church in 1926, and suits the small room very well. -Database Manager
