2011-11-17 - Identified through online information from William Dunklin. -- The Loew's Kings Theatre was one of the 5 Loew's "Wonder Theatres built in the late 1920's. Each wonder theatre was equipped with an almost identical IV/23 Robert Morton theatre pipe organ. These were known then (and now) as the 5 Morton Wonder Organs. The organ at the Loew's Kings remained in good condition and was played one last time in 1974 prior to its being removed and donated by the Loew's company to New York City's Town Hall. The instrument was never reinstalled however, and most of its pipes and works disappeared while in storage. In 1998, the lavish console was rebuilt for use with a comparable pipe organ in a private home in Wheaton, Illinois. -Database Manager
