2012-06-23 - Identified by Daniel Hancock: -- Listed in The Gratian Organ Builders, published by Warren Burke Gratian, 1922, Alton, Illinois, in which a testimonial by Rev. A. F. Ostrop, Pastor, is given, "Our organ in St. Boniface's Church, in Quincy, had, previous to my removal here, cost large sums of money for repairs, and without any improvement; rather it got worse and worse, until it could scarcely be used at all. When you were called, you recommended and put in a new action, which has been in use daily four years, without one cent of expense." -Database Manager
2013-08-16 - Updated through online information from Stephen Maxwell. -- St. Boniface was built in 1848, and Fr. Ostrop was pastor at St. Boniface from 1872-1887. The quote provided by Daniel Hancock indicates that Gratian replaced the action from an earlier instrument, and that Fr. Ostrop had about four years of experience with the rebuilt organ. This suggests that the original instrument was built between 1848-1883, and the Gratian rebuild occurred between 1872-1883. The Church installed a new organ from the Steere and Son company in 1895. -Database Manager
