2022-08-12 - On May 23, 1950, the Schantz Organ Company executed an agreement in the amount of $772.00 to perform service and maintenance on the organ, including: 1. Remove the pipes from the interior of the organ and clean each pipe. 2. Clean the entire interior with a vacuum system. 3. Lubricate all moving joints of swell pedal action. 4. Lubricate each Swell blind. 5. Lubricate crescendo action. 6. Lubricate pedal key springs. 7. Remove, recover and replace combination engine. 8. Remove and recover chime pneumatics and replace same. 9. Remove and recover harp pneumatics and replace same. 10. Place moth preventative in wind chests. 11. Reregulate the tone of each stop and tune the entire organ. 12. Place compression springs on bottom boards – make tight fit. [This item is a handwritten contract addition.] Schantz records indicate that several days of service work were requested in 1968, based on excessively dry winter heat wreaking havoc on the mechanism. Further, the chests were repacked (new gasketing) in 1971, the Harp and Chimes rebuilt in 1986, and select Pedal coupler pneumatics recovered in 2002. -- Executed Proposal Agreement of May 23, 1950, between Schantz Organ Company and First Presbyterian Church, 1, Schantz Organ Company, archive, [re-]printed in *Pipe Organs of Columbus OHS 2022* -Paul R.
