2013-01-01 - This is new organ incorporating pipework from the previous Schaefer organ. Identified by Rodney J. Weed, based on personal knowledge of the organ. -- While the old Schaefer organ was removed from the Gallery so that Wicks could use a number of the Ranks in the Schaefer for the new Wicks Gallery organ, the Wicks Company installed a brand new 5 rank highly unified and duplexed organ in the front of the Cathedral to be used while the New Gallery organ was being built. When the Gallery organ was finished and installed in 1986 the small unit organ in the front became the Antiphonal organ on the large Gallery organ bringing it up to 56 Ranks. The unit organ in the front remains in the front of the Cathedral with its own console and playable separate from the Gallery organ. However, the Gallery organ is fully capable of playing the small Unit organ in the Front of the Cathedral as its Antiphonal division on the fourth top most manual of the four manual Gallery console. -Database Manager
2013-01-02 - Updated through online information from Rodney J. Weed. -- The large Gallery organ uses many pipes from the previous two Schaefer organs that had been in the Cathdral prior to this Wicks. The other unique thing about this organ is that while the large Gallery organ was being built Wicks installed a small 5 rank unified & duplexed organ with its own two manual console down in the front of the Cathedral. When the large Gallery organ was installed the 5 rank Wicks in the front of the Cathedral became the Antiphonal division of the large Gallery organ while remaining also as a totally separate 5 rank unified organ with its own two manual Console down in the front of the Cathedral that can ONLY play the 5 ranks in the case at the front of the Cathedral. Their is some discrepancy on the Date of these organs. The date placed on the consoles by Wicks is 1985 on the two manual Console in the front of the Cathedral and 1986 on the Gallery organ Console. The Cathedral website gives a single date of 1982 for these organs. I know for a fact that the small organ in the front was installed 1-3 years before the large Gallery organ was put in the back. -Database Manager
2013-01-03 - Updated through online information from Rodney J. Weed. -- Both this organ Wicks, Opus 6054, and the Antiphonal Organ, Wicks Opus 6055, were contracted for in 1985. The Antiphonal organ was installed first in 1985 and later made the Antiphonal division of the Gallery organ when it was installed in 1986. The Antiphonal organ can be played with its separate two manual console located in the front of the Cathedral near the Antiphonal Pipes case. The Antiphonal organ may also be played from the Gallery Console as part of its Antiphonal Division. -Database Manager
