2013-03-24 - This entry describes an original installation of a new pipe organ. Identified by Matthew Davis, using information found in The Battle Creek Moon-Journal Thursday, August 2, 1917 page 5; col. 6. -- Specifications for this instrument are unknown.
St. Philip-s Organ Recital.
The opening organ recital at St. Philip-s last evening was attended by a large concourse of parishioners and hundreds of friends and each and all listened delightedly to the program rendered. It would be difficult to select any number or numbers that made special appeal since every one was presented with an artistry and grace quite exceptional. Miss Maude Russell, who is acknowledged to be a finished player, evidenced unusual ability in her interpretation and touch. Miss Davis also proved an attractive addition to the program and gave extreme pleasure to her listeners. Miss Eulalia Hannon, soprano, always appears to advantage and last evening was no exception. She sang her numbers with a beauty and charm and withal such ease of performance that she added new laurels to her already large store.
The beautiful new organ just installed was made by Henry Reinish Company of Grand Rapids, and, to make it a possibility, parishioners have labored most faithfully and efficiently ever since the church was erected, for its need was greatly felt. The choir members of St. Philip-s especially put forth every effort to raise a fund and to make from time to time handsome additions thereto. Perhaps none in the audience last evening felt a keener gratification than they.

This organ along with the church was destroyed by fire on March 28, 1928. -Database Manager
