2013-05-01 - Altered and relocated existing organ. Identified by Bob Moody, based on personal knowledge of the organ. -- The organ was orignaly a cinema organ installed in the Strand Theater in Staunton VA. With the advent of "talking pictures" the owner of the theater, a Mr. Myrtle, gave the organ to the Baptist Church which had built a new building in 1929 without an organ but with space for one. Mrs. Myrtle had played for the movies, and the Myrtles were members of the Baptist Church. Miss Pearl Keister was the first church organist to play this instrument. Pete Wetzel worked for Klann Organ Supply and did organ work "on the side." He installed a Klann console and relay and reconfigured the specification for church use, omitting the traps. I helped remove the organ in 1961 in preparation for the installation of a new organ by Charles McManis. -Database Manager
