2013-11-23 - This entry describes an original installation of a new pipe organ. Identified by Rodney J. Weed, based on personal knowledge of the organ. -- The original organ was installed in 1981. I played it a couple of times in the early 1980's and found it unusual that the organ did not have a single mutation stop on it. There were several mixtures but no mutations. In 1989 the church had a fire and the sanctuary and organ suffered a lot of smoke damage. When I checked the organ out in person on November 20, 2013. I noticed that the organ now had several mutation stops on it and every one of the mutations did not have any identifying number at the top as all other stops do. This is the numbering that is done on some organs to make it easier for organists to note their registrations without having to write down the full name of the stop. I think the addition of mutations may have been done when the organ was repaired after the 1989 fire. The pastor told me that at the request of the current organist the combination action had multiple memory levels added to give the combination action greater flexibility. -Database Manager
