2014-01-15 - This is a new organ mechanically, using unaltered pipework from the original Johnson & Son organ of 1894. Identified by Tim Wilson, Chairperson, Board of Trustees, based on personal knowledge of the organ. --
In 1957, the Johnson & Son organ was practically unplayable - especially during the summer months. An electronic substitute was considered, but the Board of Trustees with the guidance of the organist at the time, Mr. Donald VanHorn, contracted with Henry J. Durthaler of Durthaler Organ Company of Columbus, Ohio to rebuild the instrument, using all the original Johnson & Son pipework with NO tonal changes or additions. The organ and its mechanical action were replaced with electro-pneumatic chests and a two manual, stop tab console was installed.
Unfortunately, the original facade was removed and the organ was installed behind screens in two chambers. -Database Manager
