2014-02-27 - This entry describes an original installation of a new pipe organ. Identified by William Dunklin, using information found in David Junchen <em>The Wurlitzer Pipe Organ, an Illustrated History</em>, p.663. -- Style 235 Special. A stock 235 had 11 ranks. The term "special" indicates this organ was customized in some way, many 235's had an extra 2 ranks and were designated "special." The theater closed in 1968 and was torn down in 1969. The theatre opened under the name Paramount, but was soon renamed Florida. Organists known to have played the Florida Theatre Wurlitzer: William J. Gilroy was organist at the theatre-s grand opening. "Mrs. Crowther� was featured in advertising on June 20, 1927. George Henninger; Zita O'Brien; John H. Miller (c. 1951, who featured daily programs at the Florida and also served as registrar for the A.G.O.); Don Berger (c. mid-1940's was also organist at WTSP Radio.) -Database Manager
