Notes

2014-03-25 - This entry describes an original installation of a new pipe organ. Identified by Joel Morehouse, using information found in ROCHESTER DEMOCRAT AND CHRONICLE, 3/31/1893. -- The Monroe Avenue Methodist Church burned in 1972, and a McDonalds currently stands in that location. The original Democrat and Chronicle Article reads: <br>"OPENING ORGAN CONCERT AT THE NEW MONROE AVENUE METHODIST CHURCH. ><brThe new Monroe Avenue Methodist Church will be thrown open to the public for the first time on Thursday Evening, April 6, when an organ recital will be given. Herve D Wilkins will be the organist, and he will be assisted by Miss Evelyn Jacobs, soprano; Mis Marle Van Ingen, contralto, Muren W. Bowman, tenor, and the choir of the church direct by Henry Bolton, organist and director. The organ, from the noted works of the Carl Barckhoff Organ Company of Salem, Ohio, the successful competitions for the placing of the grand organ at the World's Fair in Chicago, is one of the finest in the city. The occasion promises to be one of great enjoyment." -Database Manager
