2014-05-05 - This entry describes an original installation of a new pipe organ. Identified by Timothy E. Conyers, using information found in "A History of the First Baptist Church, Sanford, Florida 1884-1984" by Grace Marie Stinecipher. -- <br>p. 25: "The organ was built by George Kilgen & Son of St. Louis, MO. It is seventeen feet high by twenty feet wide. It is the modern electric pheumatic [sic] organ (duplex) with detached console. The organ will be in the rear of the building while the console will be on the rostrum where the minister stands. The case is of oak to match the woodwork of the building. The pipes are in gold bronze lacquered. It is two manual with compass CC to c', 61 notes each. It has concave and radiating A.G.O. model pedal with compass CCC to F, 30 notes. There are 16 stops keys, 518 pipes and notes, 4 combination pistons, two pedal movements. The great organ has open dispason [sic], dulciana, melodia, flute harmonic. The Swell Organ has saliscional [sic], melodia, dulciana, flute, tremolo. The Pedal Organ has 16 feet bourdon."<br>This description says the pipe chamber was at the rear of the room. In old photographs, the pipe facade was actually located in the chancel and behind the choir. The choir was seated in an alcove behind the pulpit platform. The pipe facade encompassed the entire choir alcove wall. -Database Manager
