Notes

2014-07-29 - This is a rebuild of an existing organ. Identified by Nicholas E. Schmelter, based on personal knowledge of the organ. -- In 1928 Ernest M. Skinner of Boston built a new organ for the church. After several unsuccessful alterations, it was mechanically restored and rebuilt by Scott Smith Pipe Organs, LLC - the contract was signed in 2012 - making use of historic and replica materials.
The organ-s main divisions are located on the building-s central axis. The expressive Swell and Choir Organs are placed high above the sanctuary floor in the rear of the organ chamber; the Great and Pedal Organs fill the foremost positions near the grille; the Echo Organ is located in the east gallery; the movable console built entirely new is located on the sanctuary floor.
The organ was dedicated in recital by Frederick Swann, May 9, 2014, and in a service of worship, May 18, 2014.
The instrument was named The Frances Goll Mills Memorial Pipe Organ, a tangible reminder of the benevolence and loving memory of Frances Goll Mills, a long-time member of First Congregational Church, whose generosity throughout the years has allowed the congregation to worship in a house of prayer for all people, to be a beacon of hope for Saginaw-s Cathedral District, and to serve the people of the Great Lakes Bay Region. -Database Manager
