2021-07-10 - From the September 1970 issue of THE DIAPASON: Opus 1523 was originally built for Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Westerly, Rhode Island, in 1892. It was dismantled in early 1969 by Michael Houseman and Alan Laufman, director of the Organ Clearing House. Richard C. Hamar, New Hartford, Connecticut, installed it in the contemporary Action church with assistance from the dismantlers and volunteers from the church. The installation included cleaning and regulation of the pipework, new aluminum trackers, a new blower and other minor repairs. The principal chorus was revoiced and brightened; more extensive tonal changes are planned when additional funds permit. The casework was refinished by men of the church. Peter Waring played the dedication recital June 22, 1969. -Jeff Scofield
