Notes

2014-09-19 - This entry describes an original installation of a new pipe organ. Identified by David Lewis, based on information from archival photos. -- Congregation organized in 1863 as the Francis Street Missionary Baptist Church, when African-American members of the First Baptist Church, who had been worshiping in the basement petitioned and were granted permission to establish their own church. The original building constructed in 1869 was taken by eminent domain in 1926 (Organ ID 24750). The congregation relocated and changed its name. The second building was completed in 1928 and demolished in 2003. -Database Manager
