2014-10-20 - Updated through online information from James R. Stettner. -- The slider chests used by Balcom and Vaughan are of a Fisk design that was shared with William J. Bunch when he was a Superintendent of Aeolian-Skinner in the 1960's. The pallet is a rectangular valve/pneumatic over the note channel that fully collapses when exhausted by the primary (rather than being hinged). -Database Manager

The original organ was a 1908 W.W. Kimball Co. instrument installed in the First Pres- byterian Church at Legion Way & Franklin. The cost of the organ was $2,500.00. It was dedicated on September 6, 1908 at the same time the new building was dedicated. In 1935, one rank of pipes was added as well as chimes. In 1962-63, the organ was re- built and enlarged by Balcom and Vaughan as their Opus 705. 2 ranks of pipes were added at this time. Then again in 1971, Balcom and Vaughan was contracted to finish the earlier project by adding 5 more ranks of pipes as their opus 705 A. The organ totalled 15 ranks by this time. On the current instrument, stops marked with an asterisk (*) denote stops whose pipes are partly or entirely from the previous organ (Opus 705/705A). Notes 1 – 5 of the Pedal 16' Principal are borrowed from the 16' Soubasse. The organ also has two illuminated pistons controlling the two sets of Swell shutters. They are labeled, “Choir Expression Only” and “Nave Expression Only.” Sources: Balcom and Vaughan opus lst and files; JRS; extant organ [Received from James R. Stettner 2014-11-03.]
