2004-10-30 - Relocated from John Street Congregational, Lowell. Altered and enlarged by Goodwin and others. Historic Organs Recital series lists it as 2-31. -Database Manager
2008-10-23 - Updated through on-line information from James R. Stettner. -- The organ has copper-colored facade pipes. Combinations are via fixed foot trundles. The Swell is at the center of the case, and the Great is divided on either side. Some of the stop names are a bit 'fanciful' (like Viola Concerto, Aeola Celeste, Flauto Harmonica, Nasardo, Terza, etc.) which is from the influence of William B. Goodwin. The Swell Tremulo [sic] is via a thumb piston. The Pedal is 3 ranks - each unified as 2 speaking stops. Pedal action is electro-pneumatic. 2012-09-17 - Updated through online information from T. Daniel Hancock. -- Notes from Organ Clearing House website, 2007-10-26, "Hutchings #171, built in 1887 for John Street Congregational Church, cost $6,500. Moved in 1903 to St. Paul's (First) Methodist by Jesse Woodberry & Co., who may have made some alterations. Damaged by a fire in 1907 and repaired and somewhat altered by William B. Goodwin. The present case and console are said to be by Goodwin. Bob Reich thinks that the Great 4' Flute and Swell Vox Humana as well as certain console gadgets are the work of Goodwin (and maybe also the Great reed?). Probably some of the unorthodox stop names are Goodwin's work also. -Database Manager

It was later altered and enlarged before being moved to St. Paul's Methodist Episcopal Church in 1903 by Jesse Woodberry. It was originally 3-manuals and 42 registers. The organ was damaged by a fire in 1907 and repaired and somewhat altered by William B. Goodwin. The present case and console are said to be by Goodwin. Bob Reich of the Andover Organ Co. thinks that the Great 4' Flute and Swell Vox Humana as well as certain console gadgets are the work of Goodwin. Probably some of the unorthodox stop names are Goodwin's work also. The Swell division is at the center of the case, and the Great division is divided on either side of the swellbox. The facade pipes are copper-colored. The nameplate on the console reads: Geo. S. Hutchings Boston Wm. B. Goodwin Exp.
