2015-11-07 - Updated through online information from John Grant. -- I own an unrestored 12-note Kimball 16' Diaphone with valve chest. Included when I obtained it was a "lifter paddle" or "yoke" that engages "lugs" on the lowest 6 resonaters so that the boot can be removed.

On the paddle is the inscription "Earl Th. Atlantic City NJ Diaphone". This is the link to a photograph of this item: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ece59hrz8pe6ons/Kimball%2016%27%20Diaphone%20%28Lifter%29.jpg?dl=0

This would not be particularly unusual, however, the valve chest (unrestored) has a 3-section cover board and each section is inscribed (inside) "Orpheum Th. Germantown Pa Diaphone(?) 5(?) notes" The question marks (?) indicate lettering that is difficult to decipher.

The link to this photograph is https://www.dropbox.com/s/tx6wp7uktlqeeyh/Kimball%2016%27%20Diaphone%20Valve%20Chest%20Covers%20%283%29.jpg?dl=0 Obviously, there are not 15 notes on a 12-note valve chest, so I cannot explain the discrepancy.

Further, barton.theatreorgans.com does not show an Orpheum theatre in Germantown, PA. The only theatre it lists for that city is the Germantown Theatre with Wurlitzer Op. 166. There was one Orpheum theatre in Pennsylvania with a Kimball organ, a 1926 3/13 in Philadelphia. Can anyone shed any light on these discrepancies? Feel free to contact me at reddawg@unameit.net -Database Manager
