2023-02-27 - The assembly room for Council and Chapter degrees was situated on the sixth floor and featured a $4,000 electric-action pipe organ built by Geo. Jardine & Son of New York City, New York, and noted to contain 1,500 pipes. Performances were viewed from the eighth-floor galleries. Two electric elevators provided transport from floor to floor at a speed of 250 feet per minute. The dedication was held on November 30, 1896. The organ was in place at the dedication or soon thereafter, for a Professor Schonacker provided organ "numbers" during a "house warming" on January 20, 1897. -- *2007 OHS Atlas* -Paul R.
