2023-04-14 - This organ was not from St. Barnabas in Troy, NY. The Troy organ was an original installation two-manual. This entry describes a one-manual instrument from Kinderhook N.Y. of ca. 5-6 stops. It was sold through the Organ Clearing House to the priest of St. Barnabas, Norwich, Vt. who wanted to upgrade from the original chancel installation Estey 2-manual reed organ with pipe top (which sounded fantastic in the room and which sadly, was discarded after the pipe organ was installed). The project was assigned to a builder in Montpelier, Vermont who went bankrupt before the organ was finished, but it was at least 60% completed. The Bozeman-Gibson company completed the organ to the previous rebuilder's specifications. The rebuilt organ was dedicated by famed Vermont recitalist Harriet Slack Richardson, followed by a second concert by Lorraine Waters, at the time the organist at the Congregational Church in Woodstock, Vt. The gumwood case, facade pipe arrangement, and windchest were cut down in size and compass to fit a small floorprint at the rear of the room. -Scot Huntington
